Iris Dingle is a British visual artist and painter living and working in rural Portugal, inspired by the surrounding landscape, wildlife, and country life.
Working primarily in acrylics on canvas, she specialises in both intimate wildlife portraiture and atmospheric seascapes, celebrated for their rich detail, expressive brushwork, and striking play between light and dark. Known locally as the "Cockerel Painter," her work seeks to capture not just the physical appearance of her subjects, but their unique character, presence, and individuality through careful observation and rich texture.
In her wildlife series—such as Quiet Watchers and Ice and Fire—she creates dramatic portraits of kingfishers, harvest mice, and commanding cockerels against dark backgrounds, while her seascape studies explore changing skies, luminous water, and the quiet pull of the horizon. Today, her paintings are held in private collections worldwide.
